Srirangapatna
Srirangapatna is an enchanting town cocooned in sheer religious, cultural and historic importance. It is a town located in the Mandya district of Karnataka. The beautiful town is hemmed in by the river Kaveri. It is an important pilgrimage center of the Hindus and is located only 15 km from the city of Mysore.
Attractions Of Srirangapatna
The most famous tourist attraction of Srirangapatna is the marvellous Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Built in the 9th century, it is one of the largest temples in Karnataka. It is one of the finest examples of the perfect combination of the Vijayanagara and Hoysala Styles of Architecture. The Jumma Masjid(a Mosque) is another attraction attracting many a visitor. If natural beauty offers pleasure to your soul, then head for the Daria Daulat Gardens. Home to a wide variety of flora and fauna, the Rangantittu Bird Sanctuary invitesĀ wildlife buffs. Here you can sight several avian species such as Painted Stork, Open-billed Stork and Black-headed Ibis. A few kms ride from the town will bring you face to face with an impressive Karighatta(black hill) and a beautiful Shiva temple perched on it. Also visit the summer palace of Tipu Sultan, an interesting structure built completely in wood, now converted into a museum showcasing a rich collection of artifacts belonging to the period of Tipu Sultan. Sivasamudra Falls, the second biggest waterfall in India is located 27 km away from Srirangapatna, and is a must-visit destination.
The Srirangapatnam Fort fortified by a double wall occupies an important place on the itinerary of tourists visiting Srirangapatnam. It was constructed by Thimmanna (a local chief) in the year 1454. The fort overlooks the river Kaveri and offers mesmerizing views which are simply refreshing.
